TUSB8041: Schematic review

Part Number: TUSB8041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Hi,

Please review the below schematics of TUSB8041 for a custom board based on AM5728.

- Ports 1 & 2 are connected to USB3.0 connectors.

- Port 3 is used as control interface for a Bluetooth module.

- Port 4 is unused.

- Please confirm if the I2C address 0x50 is correct.

  • Hello Thariq,

    Schematic feedback:

    • All superspeed TX lines should have the AC caps installed.
    • Installing pullups on PWRCTL/BATEN will enable battery charging mode on those ports.
    • If SMBUSz mode is enabled, the hub will not connect as a hub until it has been configured by the SMBUS host.
    • The typical USB_R1 value is 9.53K, a lower value resistor will increase the USB 2.0 drive strength.
    • GRSTz must either have a passive reset circuit (external cap of 1 uF or larger) or an active reset source.
    • If you are using I2C mode, the address is defined in section 8.4.2 of the TUSB8041 datasheet.  - TUSB8041 is I2C host
    • If you are using SMBUS mode, the address is defined in section 8.4.3 of the TUSB8041 datasheet.   - TUSB8041 is I2C target

  • Hi JMMN,

    Thank you for the feedback.

Please see below the schematics towards the connector:

  • Hello Thariq,

Connector schematic looks ok, please make sure you have enough bulk capacitance on the VBUS lines to prevent in-rush current or droop when ports are switched on and off.
