TUSB1046EVM: Issue getting a USB-C Display working

Part Number: TUSB1046EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982,

Hi all,

It has been a while that we have been working on getting this Evaluation board working. Out of the box, we have connected this board to a 5V and a Displayport source, the USB-C was used as an output to our screen. This worked as is. But this required our screen to be externally powered, we want to have the Eval board to power up our screen by USB-C. This has been tested with a USB-C from a laptop directly to the screen and this works.

1- Our first issue was using the Aardvark SPI/I2C Host Adapter, we were able to communicate with SPI on the TUSB1046EVM but the I2C wouldn't work. I saw a few other people on the forums who had this issue, but there was no solution. So after a while of thinkering with the boards, we decided to flash them with a new configuration made in the TPS6598 Application Customization, with this we created a binary that was sent to flash. After a reboot, we were able to communicate with the TPS65982 by I2C. Is there a reason that the base flash configuration who came with the board was not working for I2C communication?

2- Second issue, with this new configuration the Display is not showing anything... We have tried putting external power on the screen again and this is not working. Using the TPS6598x Host Interface, we were able to validate that there was a communication between the dev board and the display. Here is the Register status for 0x58. Everything seems fine, except the DP Status TX, DP Enabled that is saying DP functionality is Disabled. But no where in the config have we been able to modify this. We looked at a lot of configurations and nothing seems to work.

Please help. We have been struggling with this evaluation board for a lot longer than we would have liked to...
