DP83822I: MDI to MDI connection

Hi Team,

My customer has a new project and the Ethernet(EtherCAT) structure is as following block diagram.

Since the P0 of AX58100 is MDI interface that is voltage mode, so

1. Can DP83822 connect to AX58100 via MDI interface directly?

2. Is it workable to establish connection between voltage mode and current mode on MDI interface. If it is possible, is there any reference circuit can be shared with customer?

Hi Vincent,

As you have shown in the diagram, it is possible to connect the DP83822 to the processor via the MDI interface, so long as there are DC blocking capacitors in between. A voltage mode and current mode line driver output can be connected with DC blocking capacitors.
