DP83TD510E-EVM: Hardware setting

Part Number: DP83TD510E-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TD510E, DP83822H

Hello,

I would like you to confirm about below.

* What items should I prepare to confirm ping test by using DP83TD510E-EVM ?

According to EVM schematic, this has RJ-45 connector and SPE connector.

To confirm ping test, should I prepare only two PC and two EVMs as easiest way ?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryuuichi,

Yes, to confirm the ping test, simply connecting a PC to each RJ45 port of the DP83TD510E-EVMs and the Single-Pair-Ethernet cable between the two EVMs is the easiest way to establish link. Please ensure LED_0 is strapped to '0' on the DP83TD510E EVM and that you use the attached script to program each DP83TD510E to link through auto-negotiation.

    Regards,

    Justin

  • Hello Justin-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have quick question about below.

    * Is there any recommended cable for SPE ?

In case of general ethernet cable, there is specification like cat4 or cat5 etc. But I'm not familiar with T1 spec yet. So, if you have cable requirement(or recommended cable parts number), could you please tell it to me ?

    Best Regards,

    Machida

  • Hello Justin-san,

    I have additional question.

    * It seems that attached script file is for MDIO setting of DP83TC510E. Is there no setting for DP83822H ?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryuuichi,

The is not a particular SPE cable recommendation to do the evaluation. Cat 4 and Cat 5 Ethernet cables will work for evaluation and be able to establish link between the two boards. For the longest cable reach we recommend a cable that meets the 802.3cg channel specifications, like the Siemens 6XV1830-5EH10. More information regarding cable reach can be found here: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sluaaa9/sluaaa9.pdf

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

Can you give me comment for below as well ?

    >It seems that attached script file is for MDIO setting of DP83TC510E, Is there no setting for DP838322H ?

    BR,

  • Hi Ryuuichi,

Correct, there is no register settings needed for DP83822 device to be configured for the media converter mode.

    Regards,
    Justin

  • Hello Justin-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    >Correct, there is no register settings needed for DP83822 device to be configured for the media converter mode.

I'm sorry, I have following questions about this.

    Q1.

I am also checking User's guide of EVM, then it seems that user need to set following register for both DP83822H and DP83TD510.

    * Address : 0x0017

Does above mean that anything other than user's guide decription ?

(In case of DP83TC510, there is no description about setting of 0x0017 in attached script as well.)

    Q2.

If answer of above is yes, where should I set 0x0017 for DP83TD510 ?

(Before using script ? or after using script ?)

    Q3.

If user use hardware strap setting, can user ignore this software setting ?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryuuichi,

The DP83TD510E-EVM will by default, be set the DP83TD510E to RMII Master mode and the DP83822 to RMII Slave mode through hardware bootstraps. There is no need to write additional registers to have the two PHYs working over the MAC interface in these modes.

If you desired to set DP83TD510E in RMII Slave and DP83822 in RMII Master, the User's Guide provides the hardware changes and register settings needed for that, but it is not required to bring up the EVM.

    Regards,
    Justin
