DS80PCI402: Hotswap Capability

Part Number: DS80PCI402

Hello,

I'm hoping to use this device in a hotswap environment where it will be on a board that will be inserted into a live backplane. This means that power will be applied almost instantaneously. Is the device tolerant of this or does it have a maximum dV/dt that must be supported?

It will be held in reset for the duration of insertion and until all ancillary functions have started.

Regards,

Tim

  • Hi Tim,

DS80PCI402 or other PCIe signal conditioning devices support hot swap. This is part of the requirement. There are a couple of pre-cautions:

1). Like any other design, it is important to make sure VCC and GND make first before the rest of the signals.

2). Secondly, please note PRSNT* pin. This puts the device in power down mode. With this pin de-asserted, device draws about 15uA. It would be a good idea to have this pin de-asserted until cable or media is plugged in or if there is a delay in PRSNT* pin assertion when the card gets plugged in.

    Regards,, Nasser
