TUSB4041I: TUSB4041I indication of high-speed USB connection status cannot be enabled

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Dear Support Team,

Our company has developed a control card using 3 pcs of TUSB4041I hub and some other IC-s. It works very well except for one issue: I wanted to indicate the high-speed USB connection status of the upstream port of each hub by a LED, but I couldn't enable this feature. The Pin Configuration and Functions section of the datasheet tells the following about the related pin:

Let's see the Additional Feature Configuration Register section:

I couldn't find any information neither in the register description, nor in other parts of the datasheet about how to enable this feature. We have made some more developments and I would like to fix this issue in the next version of the PCB. Please help me how to fix it. According to the datasheet I/O pins can be used up to 4 mA output current, so the indicator LED can be driven from this pin directly. Is it true for this special function pin too?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Balazs,

Looks like the stsOutputEn was moved to RSVD by mistake in the bit descriptions.  Please set bit 4 @ F0h to enable the status outputs.  The status output will be active high and can be used to drive a LED / resistor.  I would recommend testing the output on the existing board before adding anything to a new design.

Let me know if you have any issues with the output.

  • Hi JMMN,

Thank you for your reply, I have modified EEPROM files for all three hubs and I have reprogrammed all of them successfully following your guide "Forcing a USB hub into Programming Mode". There were no need any hardver forcing method. The enabled indicator feature seems to work perfectly. If I connect the upstream port of the Tier 2 hub to the host computer, the indicator LEDs of all three hubs (Tier 2 and Tier 3) start lit. I have no computer with USB 1.1 port, so I couldn't try what would have happened in that case. The description of the AUTOENz/HS_SUSPEND pin also has reference to the Additional Feature Configuration Register, but its enabling description is also missing. For that case if somebody wants to use it, please send me that enabling method too.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Balazs,

The HS_SUSPEND status output should be enabled as well when the StsOutputEn bit is set in Register F0h.  It will only be enabled when the hub is in the L2 state (USB_VBUS on, but the host has suspended USB traffic).

Let me know if you have any additional issues.

  • Hi JMMN,

Thank you for your help once more.
