SN65DSI84: Dual LVDS link initialization.

Hi,

SN65DSI84 chip converting DSI to Dual Link LVDS, does it mean it can support to driver 2 LVDS panels? There are two set of I2C registers for CHA, CHB does it mean if we connect two LCD panels we need to configure these respectively?

Hi Jagan,

The DSI84 is meant to connect to one LCD panel with a dual-link LVDS interface. You can connect to two LCD panels with single-link LVDS interfaces but the data going to the panels will not be independent from each other.

OKay. But what is link vs channel described in datasheet?

LVDS_LINK_CFG:

0 – LVDS Channel A and Channel B outputs enabled
When CSR 0x10.6:5 = ’00’ or ‘01’, the LVDS is in Dual-Link configuration
When CSR 0x10.6:5 = ‘10’, the LVDS is in two Single-Link configuration
1 – LVDS Single-Link configuration; Channel A output enabled and Channel
B output disabled (default)

Are you saying CSR 0x10.6:5 about connecting single vs double link configuration above?

Channel A, B mean 2 channels but DSI84 is Single Channel to Dual-link LVDS why 2 channel notiattion here?

Hi Jagan,

Must be a typo leftover from the SN65DSI85 datasheet. Two Single-Link configuration only applies to the SN65DSI85 which has two DSI channels and two LVDS channels.

I can see set of registers for channel A and channel B in DSI84, so you mean it's typo to have channel B in datasheet? Can you link me the updated one if you have it already?

Hi Jagan,

Please look at the block diagram in the datasheet. The SN65DSI84 has one DSI channel and two LVDS channels. Not sure you understand what I'm trying to ask. Let me elaborate more.

1. DSI84 is Single Channel DSI to Dual-link LVDS (not Channel), hope this is Okay?

2. The Functional Block Diagram show Channel A_Y* and Channel B_Y* on LVDS side. Here, so what is channel means?

3. Dual-link LVDS means connecting dual LVDS panels, isn't it?

4. Say, If I wanted to connect single LVDS panel (means single-link), how to configure LVDS channels? means which LVDS channel I need to configure? is it either channel A or B depends on design or it specified somewhere?

5. Say, If I wanted to connect dual LVDS pnales(mean dual-link), how to configure LVDS channels? means do I need to configure both Channel A and Channel B?

Hi Jagan,

1. "Channel" and "Link" are synonymous. You can also say that DSI84 is Single Channel DSI to Dual-Channel LVDS.

2. See above.

3. It just means there are two sets of data lanes that sample a different clock.

4. You would only use channel A. Alternatively, you could just use the SN65DSI83 since it only has 1 LVDS channel.

5. Yes.
