Firmware necessary

Part Number: TPS25750

Hi, Sir,

1. Is it possible that using TPS25750 without loading firmware ?

2. If yes, what is the default settings in this no-firmware TPS25750, such as charging role/charging voltage/current, etc ?

3. If no, is it possible to load firmware from MCU through I2Cs ?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Ron

  • Hi Ron,

You will not have much functionality available to you without loading the firmware, only default configurations in dead battery mode. Therefore, we highly recommend adding an EEPROM to your design for the FW as this is how the EVM is also configured.

To see what is available, please refer to Table 9-5 of the datasheet.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi, Sir,

Is there any documents or information about "default configurations"? For example, which option of Table 9-5 is default option without firmware loaded ? Which role is default settings about USB role, etc?

    Thank you,

    Ron

  • Hi Ron,

There isn't just one default option as it will depend on how the ADCIN pins are connected. Do you have your own board or are you using an EVM? If you have a schematic of your PD controller, you may attach it here and I can look at it to see which configuration it is in.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi, Hari,

In "TPS25750 Host Interface Technical Reference Manual" Chapter 4.1, it describe customer can push "Patch Bundle" over I2C to TPS25750. It seems to fulfill our request, but still few question as below

    1. How do we produce "Patch Bundle" ? From "TPS25750 Application Customization Tool" ?

    2. In our product, the initialization time of CPU is longer than TPS25750, that means TPS25750 will stay in “PATCH" mode for a while. What's default configuration of USB power role?

    3. Does TPS25750 execute USB PD/BC1.2 communication in "PATCH" mode ?

    Thank you,

    Ron

  • Hi Ron,

Patch bundle simply refers to the binary image which you can download from the Web GUI, there should be an option to Generate the Full Flash Binary.

If you are using the EVM the default data role when your configurations have not been loaded should be as a Sink/UFP.

No these features will be disabled until the TPS25750 has been loaded with a valid patch.

    Thank you,

    Hari
