AM26C31: Supply Current vs Switching Frequency on PW package.

Part Number: AM26C31

Hi,

We can see Supply Current vs Switching Frequency for N package on the datasheet P.7.   How about PW package?  Is it same supply current?  Please let us know.

My customer observes that supply current of AM26C31IPWR on 4Mbps switching frequency is bigger than one on 5Mbps. He is investigating the reason. If you can guess the reason, please advise us.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • Hattori-san,

The current consumption should not change based on package type of the IC. I've notified our applications expert to look at this thread, they will respond accordingly. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hattori-san,

The effect of the parasitics difference of package should be negligible on the power consumption. You can use the same plot for PW. However if the power consumption is not monotonically increasing with the frequency, the reason could be related to the switching current of the device.

  • Hao-san,

Thank you for your reply.   What do you mean "Related to the switching current of the device"?   Could you please explain the reason in details?

    Thanks and best regards,

  • Hattori-san,

When transmitting data, the driver turns P side and N side on and off alternatively. Sometimes both sides could be on and the current flows from Vcc to ground during switching. This period is short and the shoot through current might not be proportional to data rate. This is my speculation.
