TPS65987D: Unknown drror in source mode

Hello Chris,

PD controller is hitting Thermal shutdown. Could you connect 5K resistor on one of the CC lines and measure Vbus voltage? Just want to see if the Over current is coming from far-end or something wrong on the board itself.

I connected a 4.7k resistor to CC1 and one cable orientation does nothing the other does the same slow toggling as before.  Vbus never shows any voltage, see attached. 

How were you able to determine it is a thermal problem? I find that hard to believe because the result is very quick after I plug in and it doesn't seem any switches are closed.

Hey,

In the log you can find PowerPathTsdErrorRecovery immediately after Vbus/Vcon turns on, this indicates error recovery due to thermal shutdown.

If Vconn supported is not disabled in Port Configuration register, could you disabled it and test?

Your schematic looks good to me. Could you check whether D3 is assembled with right orientation? Basically, I want you to check if there is a low resistance path from Vbus to ground. It would be good if you can remove all external components on Vbus rail and after that connect 5K to CC line.

D3 is assembled correctly, cathode on Vbus.  I can remove F1, apply the resistor to cc, and see what happens which will limit the items on Vbus to only those near TPS chip. 

This did not produce any new results.
