TCA9517: Current consumption when enable is pulled low

Part Number: TCA9517

Hi,

I have a questions: when the TCA9517 Enable is pulled low and placed in shutdown mode, how much power is consumed by the IC?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards, Xaver

  • Hey Xaiver,

I can see if I can find the characterization data for this device and see if they did collect data for this kind of mode but I'm a bit pessimistic.

I'll comment some time tomorrow and let you know if I find it.

  • Hi Xaver,

Sorry for the delay, the server was having maintenance done the day I was trying to access it...

I was able to find some kind of char file for the device however it didn't seem like the Icc was measured when the device was disabled (from what I could make of it atleast).

The best thing I could potentially do is ask our design team to try to see if they can get rough estimates in the design simulation environment (this may not give us apples to apples results compared to real world though).

  • Hi Bobby,

this would be great if you could ask the design team to get the simulation results!

    Thanks a lot!

    Best regards, Xaver

  • Hey Xaver,

Can you provide me with the VccA and VccB ranges you were intending to use the device at?

    -Bobby

  • Hello Bobby,

Xaver had asked the question on my behalf.

The VccA and VccB is 3.3V.

    Regards,

    Anand Venkatramani

  • Anand,

Bobby is looking at this today and will get a response to you by the end of the day.

    Regards,

  • Anand,

I sent a message to our design team earlier today and was told they would see if they can get the data some time tomorrow.

I'll follow up as soon as they get back to me.

  • Just got an email from the designer, it seems the database for the device needs to be refreshed so he had to submit a help ticket to do so. This may take an additional for days depending on how long it takes for the ticket to be resolved, after that he should be able to provide us with the data for about an hour of work.

    -Bobby

  • Hi Anand,

I've been told that the ticket for the database refresh was completed. I think we may be able to get you the data by Friday. I'll follow up with the designer again on Friday to double check where hes gotten with the measurements.

  • Anand,

It seems like we found some interesting data when we did this test. For this device, it seems like the enable pin doesn't internally disable much of the digital logic so the ICC when disabled is actually quite similar to the enabled current.

The designer set VccA=VccB=3.3V with 1k pull ups and the enable pin pulled to GND. At the worst case conditions (-40C weak doping the Icc was 1.024mA and at 85C strong doping the Icc was at 1.584mA). These results seem to be the +/- 5 or 6 sigma values so we would expect these to be the worst conditions for 99.99% of the devices in this range.
