DS90LV001: Does output short circuit capability protects from bus contention damage?

Hello,

I'm intending to use the DS90LV001 is a system where there are multiple drivers, only one of them being active at the same time.

Of course, no software is fail-safe, so I want to make sure my board does not do magic fumes in case multiple drivers are enabled at the same time.

I see the DS90LV001 can handle output shortcircuit.

Can somebody confirm that it can be safely used in a situation where bus contention is possible?

Hi Ibrahim,

Yes it can. Device does not know if this is a short circuit or a bus contention.

Are you DC coupling on the outputs?

Hi Ibrahim,

If you are DC coupling then you can use Enable pin to tri-state outputs - so there will not be contention.

Also, you can AC couple - if possible - so you don't have to worry about contention.

Hello Nasser,

Indeed, using the Enable pin is the way to go.

I just wanted to make sure that, in case of software failure (software is controling OE pin), there wouldn't be a hardware failure.

(AC coupling is not an option is my case)
