TPS65987D: No PD communication when power paths are open

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hello ,

I wanted to ask about power path and dead battery mode.

I have made a FW for TPS65987D with the Application Customization Tool 6.1.1.

This firmware was supposed to negotiate 5V 3A and keep the power paths open , so that it doesn't pass to PP_HV. I have these paths as disabled , but i still want it to negotiate the 5V 3A contract and enter Alternate mode for Displayport, but it doesn't communicate at all. No traces seen with PD analyzer. Any help ? Why doesn't it negotiate? Is it because the paths are disabled? And how about Entering DisplayPort alternate mode ? Can i enter it if i don't have a power contract?

Added the project: TPS_FW.pjt

Best regards,

Eriks

  • Hi Eriks,

If you are wanting the PD controller to negotiate 5V but not close the power path, I would recommend changing the configuration of the power path to "PP Switch as Sink Only, wait for SRDY". What this does is negotiate a contract on VBUS, but does not close the power path until the SRDY command is received via I2C. If you never send this command, the PD controller will never close the power path
