I got a question about the condition of the data drawn in Techday 2020 material as link below:

In this video, there were insertion loss and return loss vs frequency as below picture. Can you tell me if this data is taken at connector-connector, IC-IC, or cable end point?

Hi RYO,

Regardless of the image, I'd like to share the information below which I think will help you understand the parameters with respect to our devices:

The channel spec (which defines the IL/RL limits) can be broken up into 3 sections.

Serializer device pin – to – PCB Tx connector pin. (The device would be unpopulated on the PCB)

Cable connector – to – connector.

Deserializer PCB Rx connector pin - to – device pin. (The device would be unpopulated on the PCB)

The channel spec has a PCB portion, this applies to either PCB.

The channel spec has a cable portion, this applies to the cable.

The channel spec has a total channel portion, this applies to Tx PCB + cable + Rx PCB.
