This looks like similar issue as the HP Chromebook case, maybe we can combine or just use 1 thread.

As in other case do you have AMD mux in this dock, if so I want to see the I2C transactions on this.

I know your setting is with multi-function (DP 2 lanes + USB3), have you tried the DP 4 lanes setting by unchecking this bit?

 I do not think they are the same problem,In this case, the cause is that Sink does not continue to communicate, and Sink should send Entermode.but there is no.

In HP Chormebook,source should send Attention.I don't know if this is the cause of the problem,Can communication be successful without sending Attention?

Not an issue if you want to have separate thread for each case.

Now on this Surface case, the log shows after PD which is source, UFP responded the DiscMode request, Surface does not send the EnterMode request message. This message has to be initiated by the DFP and not UFP.

Do you have a different log that shows SINK not ACKing the EnterMode request?

Something happened to the Surface as it stopped communicating.

I will discuss HP case separately.
