TUSB320: I2C and GPIO Control pins--OUT1/ OUT2 Status

Dear members,

The pin7&8 of TUSB320 can be configured as I2C or GPIO mode by ADDR pin, we'd like to confirm with you about the Table 3. Simplified Operation for OUT1 and OUT2' in the datasheet. Due to this CC-controller is connected type C connector, we want to know need plug-in which type C device/adaptor then to we will measure the OUT1 and OUT 2 behavior and charging current is meet spec defined or not.

Hi,

Not sure if I understand your question. Are you asking what needs to be plugged in the Type-C port to check OUT1/OUT2 states?

Hi Malik,

YES. I need to testing whether the OUT1/OUT2 signal is correct when a different type C device is connected.

Hi,

If you are checking OUT1/2 pin functionality you will need to keep part in UFP mode via PORT pin, ADDR should be NC. On CC1 or CC2 you will need to place a source termination (Rp, pull-up resistor) to 3.3 V ± 5% as listed below:

Default Current (500mA/900mA) = 36 kΩ ± 20% to
Medium Current (1.5A) = 12 kΩ ± 5%
High Current (3A) = 4.7 kΩ ± 5%

Hi Malik,

Sorry to bother you again. I still meet a problem in the design process, the description is as follows:

I set the TUSB320 to GPIO mode, and the circuit design is as follows.

When I plug in a USB type C earphone (I have verified many type C earphones with ADC codec, one of them is Samsung product), OUT3 cannot detect the audio accessory. What kind of Audio accessory does it say in the datasheet that audio accessory refers to? Is it a type C headset or others?

Hi Lumina,

Are the OUT1/2 pins working for you? I see that many of the pins are tied to a 1.8V source? Is the part powered before this 1.8V rail ramps? If no the part could potentially be back powered since these pins are not fail safe and prevent correct status from being output.
