Is TPD2E009 suited for RS485 interface? TPD2E009 is unidirection protector, and the IO voltage can only be rated up to 6V. In the field application, it would be in -7V/+12V common mode range. My customer often found the RS485 device damaged with TPD2E009. 

It looks competition SM712 is special for RS485 application. is there part able to compete with this? Thanks.

    Hello Brian,

    I would suggest using TPD2E007 for RS485 protection. It is a bidirectional device with a 13 V Vrwm. The TPD2E009, like you said, only has a Vrwm of around 6 V, so it will likely burn up when exposed to DC voltages higher than 6 V. TPD2E007 can handle normal operating voltages from -12 V to + 12 V, so it should work for your customer's application.
