TCA9801: communication problem

Part Number: TCA9801
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9509

Hi team,

Could you please provide any comment about 2 TCA9801 were paralleled linked, and the master device is connected to the B side; the slave device is connected to the A side.

Obviously, the application is different from the reference design, but we need to try to find the useable solution without PCB re-spin.

Issue detail:

.1 FP (TCA9801 x1): It can work normally, and the slave device can always be detected.

.2 FP (TCA9801 x2): If cannot work successfully, the slave cannot be detected. You can refer to the waveform in detail.

  • Section 10.1.2.2. says:

The TCA980x family supports connections with buffered translators, but care must be taken to ensure that no operating conditions be violated. In a general sense, the following must be avoided on the B-side ports of the TCA980x:

    • Sources of current other than the individual TCA980x (B-side of the other TCA980x, …)

It might be possible to replace them with translators whose B sides can be connected together, such as the TCA9509, if the circuit conforms to the TCA9509 restrictions, and if pull-up resistors are added.
