TCA9548A: Memory Inquiry

Part Number: TCA9548A

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Just like to make sure that the TCA9548ARGER does not have any volatile or non-volatile memory right?

Thanks to confirm!

Art

  • Art,

Good day to you as well! Thanks for bringing this question to E2E.

Since the TCA9548 device has registers and a state machine that get reset to default values on a power cycle of the device, this technically is volatile memory.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

  • Thanks Eric!

Please define the type, size, if it is user modifiable, and any process to clear.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Art,

This I2C switch has a single 8-bit control register that could be defined as use-modifiable, since information from I2C interface is able to read and write here. While the I2C state machine is technically memory, it is a little harder to define using these terms as it's not meant to store data. The control register and state machine will be cleared when the device power cycles or is reset using the dedicated reset pin. Neither of these should be considered non-volatile.

Let us know if you need more information.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott

  • Art,

If you look in the datasheet of this part, in the register section, some of this information is available. In section 8.5 the datasheet explains the programming method, and ways to reset the device so that the configuration resets as well.
