Hi Team,

My customer need to add HV protection on SS+ signal path. Do we have solution to protect SS pin between Type C connector and TUSB1064RNQR (like TPS6S300 short-to-VBUS protection)?

any USB3 ESD protection device should work.

for OVP, PD group should have solution

How about OVP for for SS pin? Do we have any suggested solution?

Hi Hardy,

Unfortunately the PD team does not cover OVP for SS pins. We use the ESD IC that I recommended on the SS pins for protection but since those pins are not too close to the SS pins, it is not at too much risk. I will reassign to the HSSC team to see if they might have any other solutions.

Hi Hardy,

Can you give some more details on the concern form the customer? The SS lines for the Type-C connector are typically AC coupled so OVP events are not as a concern.

Hi Malik,

The customer would like to add OVP function on SS lines because SS pin close to VBUS. If SBU pins have OV concern, SS lines should also have this concern.

Hi Hardy,

The SS lines are AC coupled meaning that the SS lines should be protected from Vbus short as long as AC coupling cap is rated for 20V or higher.
