Hello,

We're already using TPD1E0B04 on the board for 3G-SDI lines and USB 3.0 - could these also be used on 1Gbps Ethernet and/or USB 2.0?

Hello Iain,

Yes, this part has ultra low capacitance at 0.13 pF, so it can be used for 1 Gbps ethernet. It will also support USB 2.0 as well.

Thank you for your response, quite helpful.

I'm curious about the use of a Bidirectional part (vs. unidirectional) - Most 'typical' applications utilize a unidirectional device. Any insight you could lend?

Hi Iain,

When using a unidirectional part, you can only protect lines that have a normal operating voltages between 0 V and + Vrwm. If the line experiences any negative voltages, the diode will start conducting and start pulling current away.

When using a a bidirectional part, you are able to have operating voltages between - Vrwm and + Vrwm. A good example of this would be an AC coupled signal.

If your signals go between positive and negative voltages, I would use a bidirectional part. Otherwise, you can get by with a unidirectional part.
