Hi, we want to use TUSB6250 to connect a DVD ROM to our platform. The OS is WinCE(Windows CE). Can we download the firmware from the host? WinCE has the USB MassStorage driver, but in order to download the firmware, I think there should be some relevant software running on the WinCE, will TI provide these softwares?

Hi Jack,

The TUSB6250 must load in firmware from an attached serial EEPROM, it cannot load code from the USB host.

Thanks for your reply, what do you mean by "it cannot load code from the USB host."? The Data Manual says that it can either dowload firmware from EEPROM or USB HOST

Jack,

In order for the Mass Storage Class Driver to be used, the FW must reside in the attached EEPROM.

It requires a custom driver to be developed in order to allow for host download. This means that a driver must be loaded for every host system that wants to use the peripheral and it will not appear as a mass storage device to the host operating system.

Thanks Dan, so, does TI have that custom driver for WinCE to download the firmware? We would rather prefer to remove the EEPROM device, this will cut down our BOM cost and simplify our hardware design.

Jack,

No we do not.

Since the device's only real application is as a mass storage device and most customers have no desire to ship a driver with their system since their are costs associated with that as well - distribution method, updates, customer support calls since they just expect it to work.
