LM8335: Extended register read & write.

Part Number: LM8335
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA6408A

Hello

Is the LM8335 available a Extended register read & write?

If available, How to use it?

Best regards.

  • Louis,

Thank you for bringing this question to E2E. On page 9 of the datasheet, the extended register write function is referenced and explained.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

  • Hi Eric

    Thanks for your feedback.

Is the LM8335 available a Extended register read?

Could you provide reference and example for Extended register read function?

    Best regards

  • Hi Louis,

The LM8335 does not support read access, so only extended writes are supported.

  • Hi, I would like to check whether LM8335 support register write/read functions not extended register read.

    can you check this?

  • Lui,

The LM8335 supports register writes and extended register writes, but does not support register reads.

    Regards,

  • Hi Eric, Thank you for your reply.

If LM8335 does not support register read, is there another part that supports extended register write, register write/read and we can buy EVB?

that will be a great help to me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Lui

  • Hi Lui,

It sounds like being able to read to and write from registers are requirements for your design. We don't have a pin-to-pin compatible device that also offers these features, so I'd like to know the other requirements you have to best recommend a suitable device.

    • How many I/Os are required for this design?
    • Are readable inputs required for this design, or only configurable outputs?
    • Is there a specific footprint requirement?

In general, I would recommend TCA6408A as an 8-bit I2C I/O expander. This device supports both reads and writes to its registers (writing so the input state registers has no effect) and  is operational in the same supply range as LM8335.

I would encourage you to check out our I/O expander product page. Here you can sort through our devices to find which ones meet your needs. If you have specific questions about any device that you can't find on the datasheet, you can ask about them here.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott

  • Lui,

Can you elaborate a bit more on what is needed? We don't have another general purpose IO expander device with extended register writes or reads, but we have some I2C IO expanders with limited extended register writes and reads.
