DS26C31MQML: DS26C31MJ/883 and 5962-9163901MEA

  • Hello Ba,

The DS26C31 is of National Semiconductor origin.   TI acquired National in 2011.  To receive this version of the product, order by the part number DS26C31MJ/883.

The AM26C31 originated at TI.  To get this version of the product, order by the SMD number 5962-9163901MEA.

The US government DLA SMD system is set up so that any company can supply parts with the SMD number as long as the product meets all the specifications in the SMD.  For an industry standard part like this (RS-422 driver) many companies make the part and both TI and National supplied product per the SMD number.  When TI acquired National, there was some overlap.  At that time, a PCN was issued that where both National and TI supplied an SMD part number, if the SMD part number was ordered the customer would get the TI version of the part.   To get the National version of the part it is necessary to order by old National (now TI) part number and not the SMD number.

To be listed on the SMD and have the SMD part number, a product must meet all the performance requirements plus the company as to manufacture, test and qualify the part per mil standards as shown in the SMD.   The company also must be certified to supply parts to the SMD.
