SN65HVD1786: TIDUEI9 power

Part Number: SN65HVD1786
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD8010, THVD8000

Dear *,

i have a question regarding this
if i understand correctly only two wires are used for communication and power, is that correct ?
But I see for power 24V is used, is it possible to use 48V ? or do we need another RS485 transceiver ?
Best Regards,
David.
  • David,

Yes, this design shows transmitting both power and RS-485 with the same two wires. It's possible to use 48V DC as long as the decoupling cap (C1 and C2) has enough voltage rating.

Nevertheless, TI recently released two chips for this kind of application - THVD8000 and THVD8010. Please check them out and as well as the design guide. Please let me know if you have any question.

    Regards,

    Hao
