TUSB320: Application Inquiry

Part Number: TUSB320

Hello Team,

My Customer is planning to use the TUSB320 in his design. However, needs to clarify few things:

Regarding pin VBUS-DET:
According to the datasheet, there shall be 900k to VBUS. But if VBUS is 5V the level of VBUS-DET is below the threshold level of VBUS-DET which is >2.9V.
Shall I use 50k if the VBUS is 5V? Or will they get a detection despite the level is below the threshold?

Regarding pin ID:
They have tried to set pin PORT to high, low and Not connected. But the ID pin will not turn low.
They have connected the USB C connector to a PC using a USB C - USB C Cable and a USB C to USB Type-A Cable.

Regards,

Renan

  • Hi Renan,

    1. VBUS_DET has an internal pull down of ~ 95k (RVBUS_PD). The threshold mentioned for VBUS is not the threshold voltage for VBUS_DET. If 900k pull-up is used detect will be correct.

    2. Is there a schematic that I can review?

Also customer should use TUSB320LAI instead of TUSB320.

  • Hello Malik,

Please see attached snippet of schematic provided by our customer.

     schematic.zip

    ENn is low,
Port is low, but they have tried to disconnect Port, and connect it to 3.3V.

    Regards,

    Renan

  • Hi Renan,

Keep in mind that ID will only go low when connecting a USB-C device (Rd present on the CC pin) and TUSB320LAI is configured in DFP or DRP mode. Have you tried connecting a USB-C device to test ID functionality?

Schematic looks okay. Do you plan to use DRP mode? L10/13 implementation is not typical. I am not sure if this could cause ringing during the DRP toggle. I would recommend shorting the CC pins to the USB-C connector.

I2C is also being used. IS the I2C interface functional? What I2C value pull ups are used and how does the pull up voltage ramp as compared to Vdd?
