TPS65987DDK: Configure a UFP as source

Part Number: TPS65987DDK

Hi,

I'm currently involved in a project where we want to design an interface board (dongle) with the following capability, limitations:

- USB-C receptacle

- USB2.0 or lower standard data

- Data flow : UFP (this PCB is the device and will be connected to an external host)

- Power flow: Source (this PCB provides power to the host). 5V 0.5 to 1A max

- No MCU available to control any USB PD controller

This PCB is a dongle that turns an Ethernet signal into USB2.0. We will have a tablet in USB-C connected to it. The tablet will act as host but require to be powered by the dongle.

I looked into TI products and found the TPS65987DDK that, I think, could do the job.

My questions are as follows:

1) Is there any other TI device that would be more suited for this task ? Knowing we only need an UFP source, with 5V 1A max (0,5A is already fine)

2) Is there a way to configure such a device to present itself as a UFP (initially a sink according to USB-C standards) and then request a power role swap to act as a source(if VBUS drops I don't mind as long as the data roles are kept) autonomously without the need of a MCU or host processor ?

If the requirements or anything is unclear, feel free to let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Marc
