TPS65983B: Moving from TPS65983A to TPS65983B

Part Number: TPS65983B

Hello E2E,

My customer is looking to port the TPS65983A to the TPS65983B.  I saw the following two e2e posts on the subject.  However, I have two additional questions.

Do we have any technical documentation on the port that we can share?

Would my customer need to go through a new TBT certification in moving from A to B version?

Thanks!

Russell

  • Hi Russell,

We do not have any formal documentation outlining the differences between the TPS65983 and the TPS65983B. As mentioned in one of the links you share, the TPS65983B contains some PD3.0 updates and enhancements to work with both Intel's Alpine Ridge designs and Titan Ridge designs. Intel's recommendation is that all Thunderbolt 3 device designs utilize the TPS65983B and while TPS65983 will work in an APEX Creek design it is preferred that your customer use the TPS65983B silicon instead.

As far as the TBT certification, you may be able to get a waver if the only difference is the PD controller and you are not implementing any PD3.0 functionality. I would double check with Intel though
