TFP401A: About Maximum and minimum of setup/hold time

Part Number: TFP401A

Hello,

Regarding to setup/hold time on TFP401A,my customer is asking some question.

Their configuration: 1 pixel/clock, PIXS = low, OCK_INV = high, fODCK=65MHz

(Question)

1) According to datasheet page 8, set time(minimum ) and hold time(minimum ) are 2.1(ns)/0.5(ns).

Are these values at fODCK=165MHz?

If so, do you have some data(min/typical/max) of 65MHz?

From below thread, setup time is 4.5ns and hold time is 10ns at 65MHZ. Are these values typical?

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/interface-forum/977890/tfp401a-setup-and-hold-time?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=TFP401A%20setup%2065M

If so, do you have some data(min/max) of 65MHz?

2)They think about estimating of set time(max) and hold time(max) as following.

t_su2(max)=1/freqency - t_h2(min)

t_t2(max)=1/freqency - t_su2(min)

fODCK=65MHz

t_su2(max)=15.38ns - 0.5 = 15.33ns

t_t2(max)=15.38ns - 2.1 = 13.28ns

Their understanding is correct?

  • Hi Tao,

We only have typical data, which shows 4.5 ns setup time and 10 ns hold time at 65 MHz.They can estimate max values but we cannot guarantee anything that's not in the datasheet.

    I.K.

  • Hello I.K.,

    Thank you for reply.

    About max value of estimation,

    I understood you cannot guarantee.

Is their estimation correct as following?

    t_su2(max)=1/freqency - t_h2(min)

    t_t2(max)=1/freqency - t_su2(min)

  • Hello I.K.,

    I have an additional question.

About setup time(4.5ns) and hold time(10ns) at 65 MHz,

The period at 65MHz is following.

    1/65MHz=15.38ns

Above period is close to sum of setup time(4.5ns) and hold time(10ns).

So, my customer thinks setup time(4.5ns) and hold time(10ns) might be maximum value.

What do you think about maximum value?

Could you please give us some comment?

  • Hi Ted,

That estimation is not really accurate. It seems all they're doing is subtracting the setup/hold time from the period to get the hold/setup time. This implies that setup + hold = period, which is not correct.

But yes 4.5ns and 10ns are close to the maximum values.

    Regards,

    I.K.
