DS90UB954-Q1: Does Ground Shift affect FPDLink Performance

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1

The application involves having cameras connected to the control unit through long cables. Does a ground shift at either the camera end or the Control Unit end affect LVDS performance? Will the answer change based on the power supply scheme for the cameras - Power over Coax or locally supplied at the mounting location?

  • Hi,

Yes, the answer will change based on PoC or local power supply.

Which way is the current application?

    Best Regards,

    Charley Cai

  • The current application is with PoC.

However, I would like to know what would happen if the camera module has a separate power supply line from a local power node.

  • Hi Pramod,

It's difficult to quantify how much ground shift will affect the link. Our adaptive equalization algorithm has the ability to adjust the DC offset of the signal. However it is still recommended to minimize ground shift as much as possible.

When using PoC, you are introducing additional noise to the system. The camera switching noise and regulator noise can be coupled onto the FPD line, affecting the signal integrity. We suggest keeping the PoC noise below the requirement for robust link performance.
