Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65988,
Hello Guys,
Good day.
Our customer is looking for an alternative to TPS65987DDHRSHR since it is out of stock. Do we have anything that supports BC1.2 too ?
Thanks!

Art,
What feature set are you using from the 987?
Do you need Alternate Mode support for Display port?
We may have options, but I need to know what the total feature set is to give you any suggestions.
Regards,
Chuck
Thanks for looking into this Chuck!
I will notify the customer regarding the feature set inquiry.
I notice that TPS65987DDKRSHR seems to supports BC1.2. Is that true? Is this device exclusive for Thunderbolt 4 devices only?
Art
Hi Art,
Please check out the TPS65987DDH for BC1.2 support and Type-C.
Thanks,
Emma
Thanks for looking into this Emma!
However, TPS65987DDH is currently out of stock. So customer is considering TPS65987DDKRSHR instead. I know device is exclusive for Thunderbolt devices only but could you help to confirm if TPS65987DDKRSHR recognize legacy chargers with BC1.2?
Thanks!
Art
Hi Art,
You should consider the TPS65988 instead of the TPS65987DDK. The TPS65987DDK is thunderbolt specific and not suitable for your application. The TPS65988 is pin to pin compatible with the TPS65987D and needs only a few configuration changes. You can follow the TPS65987D datasheet for your schematic and substitute in the TPS65988. The TPS65988 has the same BC1.2 support as the TPS65987D.
Thanks,
Emma
Hello Emma,
Good day.
Customer have follow-up question regarding TPS65988. How is it possible to set an over-current protection threshold for internal power path switches in it? Is this threshold configurable by I2C host?
Thanks!
Art
Art,
The over-current protection threshold is configurable within the GUI for each PDO (Voltage and Current setting) which will be easier than using the Host Interface to update it.
It is possible to update the over-current threshold within the host interface.
Regards,
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
Apologies, I did not make my questions clear. The question was how to update the over-current threshold within the host interface. Is there any examples or user guide you can send us that we can provide to the customer?
Can you suggest specific registers, which define the overcurrent threshold?
Thanks in advance!
Art
Art,
The easiest method to do this is to define multiple PDO at the same voltage and them use the host interface TPS65987DDH and TPS65988DH Host Interface Technical Reference Manual (Rev. B) and update the supported PDO current via the Source Capabilities Register that is described on page 40.

Chuck
