DS90UB936-Q1: difference between 936 and 954

Part Number: DS90UB936-Q1

Hi Team,

Please help to confirm whether 936 and 954 are compatible in hardware design and software configuration? Whether these two devices are only different in the maximum communication rate supported by FPD-Link

  • Hello,

I believe you are asking whether the 936 is interchangeable with the 954.  If so, the 936 is pin-to-pin compatible with the 954, and the register map is very similar.  So from a software and hardware perspective they will be compatible. However, you will need to check serializer compatibility since the 954 is also compatible with the 953 serializer.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

                  Thanks for your reply.

In our design, there is a TI 953 in the camera, and the TI 954 connmunicate with 953,and the software of the processor configures them.

Now,we hope that only using the TI936 to replace the TI954,and we don't change the configuration software, TI953 in camera, and the peripheral circuits of TI954.

                  Is that OK?

                  1. The registers of TI954 and TI936 are  same exactly?

                  2. The software for TI954 and TI953 can be used for TI936 and TI953 directly?

                  3. In our design, the POC dircuits for TI 954 and TI953 is 4G FPDLINK III POC network, are them suitable for TI936 and ti953?

4, The AC capacitors are 33nf and 15nf for TI954 , are the suitable for TI936?

    XueFeng

  • Hello,

So I said that the register sets are similar but there are some differences.  You may be able to get away with not changing any software but you will need to make sure that the registers your software writes are the same in 936.

The PoC network that works for 954 should work fine for 936 as forward channel and backchannel speeds are comparable.  If you look at the datasheet for 936 and 954 you will see that the PoC network requirements are the same.

For the AC caps it depends on what mode you are using, you will need to verify in the datasheet that the AC caps meet the requirements in table 228.  With that said, the tables are the same in 954 and 936 datasheet so if it works on 954 it should work with 936.
