DS160PR410: AC coupling capacitor requirement

Part Number: DS160PR410

Hi,

In our module we are using DS160PR410RNQT for PCIe communication line in add-in card.

Based on the data sheet (DS160PR410RNQT) in section 8.2.1.1 (design requirement), AC-coupling capacitors to be placed near to the receiver end of each channel segment to minimize reflections.

As per the PCIe standard, AC coupling capacitors to be placed nearer to the Transmitter end. Since it is a add-in card, main module is having coupling capacitors in transmitter end.

So kindly provide your suggestion for placing the AC coupling capacitor in receiver end of DS160PR410RNQT.

Regards,

Boosun

  • Hi Boosun,

In add-in cards, AC coupling Cap should be placed within 400mils of the connector pins. A shorter distance - ~ 250mils - is recommended when connecting to edge fingers. If the connection is chip to chip, then it is recommended the AC coupling Cap closer to the receiver. Also, it would be a good idea to stagger the AC coupling Caps so there would not be a big ground gap due to the void under AC coupling Caps.

    Regards,, Nasser
