TUSB8041A: replace TUSB8041 with TUSB8041A direclty

Hi Expert, 

Customer replace TUSB8041IRGCR  with TUSB8041ARGCR directly on the board, but it doesn't work(no signal out), while TUSB8041IRGCR  can work well.

What change should do when replacing  TUSB8041 to TUSB8041A? please advise.

    There should be no changes needed, can they confirm that the thermal pad is well connected?  TEST is pulled down? And SMBUSz is high if SMBUS host mode is not used?

    SMBUSz is high,and TEST pin is pulled down.
    We can't get the signal directly using the oscilloscope for the test of USB port, but it can recognize the USB device.
    And we can use the oscilloscope to get the signal directly before we replaced to TUSB8041A.
    Do you have any suggestions to solve it.

    Are they able to see the TUSB8041A connect at either USB 2.0 speed or USB 3.0 speed on the upstream port?  It should connect on both.  Can they check the voltages on USB_VBUS and USB_R1 and GRSTZ.

    USB_VBUS and USB_R1 and GRSTZ电压分别是0.49V、0.5、3.3V,都是正常的。
    连接的USB设备都能正常识别到并正常工作。只是测试时治具接上去没有信号出来,治具接到没换TUSB8041A的主板上是可以直接测到信号的。请问是否是TUSB8041A的信号测试需要什么触发条件?你们是怎么测试这个IC的?

  • So the TUSB8041A works in normal conditions, but not for USB signal quality testing?   For USB 3.x signal quality testing, the TUSB8041A prevents unexpected entry to USB compliance mode on the downstream ports per the USB 3.1 specification updates.  You will need to enable compliance mode entry on the downstream ports of the hub using the XHCI HSETT tool from usb.org.  Let me know if this does not answer your question.

  • 这个tool只能发USB2.0 TX compliance mode, USB3.0的test mode需要CP0和CP1两种mode,目前这个tool没有,也发不出来superspeed信号。

  • The tool enables only compliance mode on the downstream ports of the hub.  Compliance mode must be enabled on the downstream port of the hub, then the hub port must detect rx terminations and when polling fails, the compliance pattern will start.  Please check the CTS for the scope / test fixtures you are using for more information on how to take the eye diagram.

    按照你们的要求,在测试治具的RX端有接入USB3.1device作为RX terminations,但是依然没有CP0 mode signal,我们测试软件是TEK一致性测试软件,通常治具的RX端是不用接RX terminations的,开机完成后接上USB测试治具,可以抓到LFPS信号,之后自动引TX信号切换到CP0 mode(这个说的是HUB TUSB8041),或者有tool直接切换到CP0CP1mode,目前提供的XHCI tool里的Superspeed功能不能切换CP0CP1mode.
