TUSB8041: The max insertion loss that TUSB8041 can cover

Part Number: TUSB8041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002A

Dear team,

My customer is using TUSB8041 as a USB 3.0 hub. The block diagram is shown below.

The eye diagram of downstream is below

1. port 1 short mode:

2. port 1 long mode

3. port 4 short mode

4. port 4 long mode

The test result shows that the eye is not good and hit the eye mask.  According to answers to other questions on e2e, it seems that there is no register to tune the output swing and EQ.

1. Is there any other devices that can tune EQ and swing? pin2pin device is better.

2. Do we have any specs about the max insertion loss that this device can support?

  • Hi Lijai,

The max trace length support on the USB 3 side of the DS port is 8 inches using FR4 and standard 6 layer stackup, IL will vary based on board material and stack up. In this case customer will need to implement a USB 3 redriver like TUSB1002A to help compensate we can also review layout to help improve results. We do not have a p2p device with configurable TX de-emphasis (EQ would not come into play here).
