Hi team,
I am learning PCie retimer. May I know the differences between PCIe retimer and ethernet retimer? Thank you!

Hi team,

Hi Miranda,
The main difference should be the protocols supported. Please let me know if additional info is required.
Thank you,
Nikhil
Hi Nikhil,
Thank you for the reply.
Can they be swappable? Like using PCIe retimer in MAC to optical module lanes? Or using ethernet retimer between two CPUs?
Hi Miranda,
I am looking into your question and will provide feedback by Friday of this week.
Thank you,
Nikhil
Hi Miranda,
I have reassigned this thread to the HSSC team who will be more suited to answer this question. You will receive an answer to your question shortly.
Thank you,
Nikhil
Hi Miranda,
Our PCIe retimers participate in protocol negotiations - unlike Ethernet retimers such as DS250DF410 and etc.
Further they are now swappable since these are two different protocols and data rates.

Hi Nasser,
Thanks for your answer.
You mean 'swappable' or 'non-swappable'?
Could you share me some documents about PCIe protocol or PCIe retimer/retimer? It would be more helpful, thank you very much.
Hi Miranda,
PCIe operate at different data rates and protocol is different from Ethernet. Therefor we cannot exchange devices supporting these two protocols. For PCIe retimer, please take a look at DS160PT801.

Hi Nasser,
Could you grant me the access so I can download the full datasheet of DS160PT801? Thank you!
Hi Miranda,
Please let's close this E2E case and we can discuss this through internal TI email.
Regards,, Nasser
