DP83867IS: Documentation / Guide for EtherMac & SGMII Link Question

Part Number: DP83867IS

Do we have any collateral documenting how to go about establishing a link with EtherMAC and SGMII after a reset?

  • Hi Darren,

Section 2.10 of the linked App Note deals with creating an SGMII link. https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snla246

Is customer experience issues with SGMII connection after a reset? Customer may try increasing the duration of SGMII auto-negotiation timer in register 0x31.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil

  • Hi Nikhil,

From the documentation, the customer has summarized the main point as follows:

In the end, as long as the strap settings are enabling SGMII, it seems like after the device powers-up it automatically links with the MAC.

    Is that understanding correct?

They were hoping for some kind of register setting flow chart just to be sure, but if their understanding above is correct then it shouldn't be a problem.

  • Hi Darren,

MAC side link should happen automatically. Some items customer may check:

    • DP83867 Troubleshooting guide section on SGMII link
    • Extend SGMII auto-negotiation timer to longest time setting via register 0x31
    • Confirm SGMII strapped correctly, register 0x6E[11], 0x10[11]
    • Check if in 6-wire mode or 4-wire mode, register 0x6F[11], 0xD3[14].
    • Check SGMII Auto-negotiation status, register 0x37[0]

    Thank you,

    Nikhil
