TUSB212: TUSB212 placement suggestion

Hi,

There's a system now with main board (MB @ left side) and daughter board (DB @ right side) connected to each other with FFC cable as shown below, and the USB connector is at the right side of the DB.

Currently our plan is to place the redriver in MB with all the trace lengths described below.  Based on TUSB212 spec, I think the trace length should be ok for us??  But, I'm not sure about the loss on FFC cable.  Based on the topology below, do we have to cross check any details to make sure TUSB212 can work well with it?

  • The total length of the MB is 8800 mil.
  • We plan to place the redriver with a distance @ 224mm to the FFC connector.
  • THe FFC cable is 93mm long between MB and DB.
  • The trace on the DB from FFC connector to the USB connector is 120mm.

    Hi Anthony,

    I recommend placing TUSB212 closer to the FFC connector on the main board. From your description it sounds as if redriver is very close to the SOC (224 mm - ~8818mils, maybe a typo?). It would be better on the DB board so that we can compensate for the loss of the long FFC cable. Closer to the USB connector is better from the SOC perspective.
