DP83867E: If I replace a Qualcomm AR8033 with this part, do you forsee any issues in the device configuration in the OS?

Part Number: DP83867E

Hi team,

Right now, my customer is working with a SOM reference design that is using Qualcomm/Atheros AR8033.

They want to replace it with the DP83867E.

Could my customer drop in the TI part and do you think there will be issues with how the OS responds? It is using an RGMII interface for 1Gbit ethernet back to the embedded MAC in the SOM.

It doesn't have to be pin compatible, but they're asking from the point of view of the device configuration in the Operating System.

Thanks,
Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

By operating system is the customer referring to the MAC interface? The DP83867E is fully compliant with RGMII and SGMII interfaces, and should not have a problem communicating with a MAC that supports RGMII or SGMII. It sounds like the customer is aware a schematic change will be needed, otherwise I see no issues.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil
