TPS25810: TI solution suggestion

Dear Team,

Please help confirm whether TPS25810 and TPS25814 are suitable for these spec as below?

1. Provide 5V @ 3A (15W) output capability through USB typeC
2. When the external power supply is plugged in through UCB typeC, the load switch can be disconnected
3. Can support cable connection and direction detection function
4. Only through GPIO, the host's SOC can control the switch, whether there is abnormal discharge or error

If not, could you help to suggest suitable solution for customer?

Hi Jimmy,

1. Yes the TPS25810 and the TPS25814 can support 5V at 3A.

2. Both devices will not provide power if a DFP/power source is connected on the CC lines.

3. Yes these parts have an orientation output, POL. Both also have the UFP/SINK output to indicate a UFP is connected.

4. The devices have an enable pin, which I believe is what you are referring to here. The TPS25814 has I2C input that allows for control through an EC or host.

Can these USB load switches be set with limited current resistance?

Customer want to set 5V@1A, 5V@2A, 5V@3A by limited current resistance.

Hi Jimmy,

Both devices have an option between two current limits.

The TPS25814 current limit can either be set to 1.5A or 3.0A.

The TPS25810current limit can either be set to 1.7A or 3.4A.

The TPS2647 has an adjustable current limit and can be used in conjunction with the TPS25810 or TPS25814.

Hi Jimmy,

From the datasheet, I think you may need an extra 47uF cap on the In1/2 connection. Other than that, it does look ok to me but I would still recommend waiting until Monday for Emma to provide additional feedback.
