TCAN4551-Q1: Can TCAN4551-Q1 Pin-Pin Compatible with TCAN4550-Q1

Part Number: TCAN4551-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550-Q1

1. Customer doesn't use LDO, pin16 is connected with a 10uF cap to GND

2. Customer doesn't use watch dog, doesn't use RAM watch dog

3. Customer uses AN FD register/Interrupt/Diagnostic Falg Registers

4. Schematic is as below

Could you please tell me if TCAN4551-Q1 pin-pin compatible with TCAN4550-Q1 in this case? Thanks.

  • I mean if both hardware and software 100% compatible? Thanks.

  • Wayne,

The only differences between the TCAN4550-Q1 and TCAN4551-Q1 are no watchdog or 5V regulator output on the TCAN4551-Q1, and the TCAN4551-Q1 can work down to 1.8V IO levels.

Everything else on the device is the same. The schematic shared will work, and the software won't need to change.

  • Hi,

Could you please help reply my further questions on 4551.

In datasheet 8.4 both 4550 and 4551 have 5 status, both have sleep mode, but in Figure 22 device state diagram, there is no UVio protected status in 4551. We found if we disable the power supply for Vio, 4550 can go to sleep mode, the current is 0.13mA, however, 4551 cannot go to sleep mode by this way, the current is 6.5mA. If we send SPI write MO=00 first, then disable Vio, both 4550 and 4551 can go to sleep mode. So looks like there is one more difference between 4550 and 4551, and UVio protected mode causes this difference? Could you please help confirm? Thanks.

  • Wayne,

Yes and sorry I missed this. Because the VIO capability was reduced to 1.8V on the TCAN4551-Q1, the UVIO was removed. It is strange that writing MO=00 allows for UVIO to put into sleep mode though, the SPI write of MO=00 should put the device into sleep mode by itself. Can you confirm this for me?

  • Eric,

I wrote 'If we send SPI write MO=00 first, then disable Vio', both go to sleep mode, i confirm this.

  • Wayne,

Understood, so writing MO=00 doesn't put the device in sleep mode by itself?
