DP83848-EP: Reserved Pins Connection

Hi Team,

Our customer have deployed multiple of their products having the reserved pins (pin 20 and 21) of DP83848-EP left floating. There's a note on the datasheet about these pins which must be pulled-up to AVDD33 via 2.2kΩ resistors.

There's been no issues reported in the deployed products so far. However, we wish to know the possible effects or consequences that may brought out by this error. We just want to make sure that this is expected behavior or not so our customer could recall the deployed products accordingly and rectify the error.

    Hello Jejomar,

    Thank you for reaching us with your query.

    There is detect functionality in the reserved pins 20 & 21 that could put the PHY into an undefined operational state. An old function was planned, but never implemented, and this function must not be enabled.

    So the reserved pins MUST be pulled up to AVDD33 (via 2.2kΩ resistors).
