TUSB8042A: Super speed disabled

Part Number: TUSB8042A

I have a custom board with the TUSB8042A.

Upstream: USB 2.0 and USB 3.0

Port 1 has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 USB-A

Port 2 has a permanent connection to USB 2.0 to a MCU

Port 3 has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 USB-C

Port 4 floating

And I have the HD3SS3212I, on the upstream port and port 3 since those are connected to a USB-C connector.

I am running into the issue where super speed is disabled. Pin 39 floating, showing 3.3V high, which indicates that super speed is disable if I'm reading that correctly

How would I enable Super speed.

HI Owen,

Pin 39 is only a status output if you have enabled the status outputs using the Additional Feature Configuration register, have you done that? If not, this pin will float after it is sampled after reset.

I have not done that. Not exactly sure on how to do that.

Is that something that has to be done to enable Super Speed?

Hi Owen,

Superspeed doesn't need to be enabled, only the status outputs do if you need them for debug. Are you not seeing a SuperSpeed connection? Is this an embedded application? If so, can you check that hub SS TX is connected to the host SS RX and vice versa (not TX to TX, RX to RX) and that there are AC caps on each pair of lines? What do you see on the host when the hub is connected?
