TPS65987DDK: Using TPS65987DDK as CDP

Part Number: TPS65987DDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D

Hi,

We are developing a USB-C based docking station with power only via laptop and we are TPS65987DDK as a PD controller. Our application also has a USB 3.0 hub where we need both USB 3 and USB 2 data lines. As we are going to use the power coming in so I am assuming that the PD controller TPS65987DDK will be using USB 2 lines for BC1.2 support. If this is the case the can we use the same USB 2 lines going to the USB Hub?

I am going through the following document ( https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slvae17a/slvae17a.pdf?ts=1617575170719&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F ) specifying the CDP mode that allows both charging USB port with USB data support. It seems like they are sharing the USB 2 lines going to the PD controller as well as the USB hub as shown below;

Also, is there any reference design based on TPS65987DDKRSHR?

Kind regards,

Mat

  • Hi Mat,

    Please see my response to your other thread where I recommend using the TPS65987DDH. The application note that you are referring to will correspond to the DH version of the TPS65987D. As far as the USB2 lines, I will check on the specific with my team and get back to you.

    Thank you,

    Hari
