TPS65987DDK: TPS65987DDK is for TPT or DP Alt mode?

Part Number: TPS65987DDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D

Hi,

We are going to use TPS65987DDK as PD controller and we are also adding DP Alt Mode in our system. As per the TPS65987DDK datasheet it supports both DP and TPT alt mode but I am reading on TI forums where TI is not recommending to use TPS65987DDK for DP Alt Mode.

Please clarify.

Kind regards,

Muhammad Awais

  • Yes the TPS65987DDK PD controller supports both DP and TBT, but due to new specifications regarding TBT4/USB4, we only recommend this device if you will be supporting the TBT4 Alt Mode.

For most applications that require just DP Alt Mode, the TPS65987DDH version of the TPS65987D is more suitable.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,

Thanks for your reply. We are not using this for USB4. Can you please confirm if TPS65987DDK supports ALT DP with USB 3.0?

Issue with the TPS65987DDH is availability as it is right now out of stock. If TPS65987DDK will not be serving for our application then kindly suggest the alternative.

    Thanks,

    Muhammad Awais

  • Hi, the TPS65987DDK would support DP, however, some of the features from DH may not be available on there as it is specialized for TBT4/USB4. I would suggest to try testing using the TPS65987DDH EVM to start with and then once it is available you may order that ROM as it would fit best for your application.

    Thank you,

    Hari
