TCAN4551-Q1: internal main regulator

Part Number: TCAN4551-Q1

Hi to all,
I would be interested in using the TCAN4551 without using the internal main regulator.
I would like to exclude the Vbatt supply bypassing the main internal regulator by feeding the chip directly with the + 5V voltage instead of Vbatt supply from the Vsup pin.
Do you think it is possible to supply the TCAN4551 by directly injecting the +5V into the VCCFLTR pin and then leaving the Vsup pin floating?
Is this a safe working condition or does it risk compromising its reliability?

Thanks for your attention,

Fabio

  • Hi Fabio,

VSUP is required for the device to function properly. It powers the device in low power modes and is used for WAKE and INH features. VCCFLTR is not a power input pin, it is simply used to stabilize and filter the supply using an external capacitor. You should only attach a capacitor to this pin and the capacitor connects to GND.

For the TCAN4551 the minimum recommended voltage on the VSUP pin 5.5V.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best,

    Chris
