TPS25750EVM: design help for my graduation project

Part Number: TPS25750EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261DEMO

Dear Sir,

I’m designing my graduation project, which is an “External SSD with power delivery USB Port”

The project main focus is in software, because it is very expensive to design it also hardware wise.

By so, the project is mainly based upon evaluation board.

(Attached to this mail is the project block diagram)

The project will have 3 main functionalities:

  • Charging the SSD batteries (sink mode) by using an external PD wall charger
  • Charging other USB PD devices (source mode – with no data) acting like a regular power bank
  • Connecting the SSD to a laptop – in this mode, the SSD can charge the laptop (source mode – with data) and at the same time, use the USB 3.0 data lines in order for the laptop to recognize the SSD as a SATA bridge device

For this project among the rest, I plan to use the USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 and the TUSB9261DEMO Boards

I noticed that in the USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01, the USB 2.0 lines are connected to the PD controller in order to support BC1.2.

Since I don’t need to support BC1.2, and I need the USB DP/DM lines in order to connect them to the SSD bridge device, I plan to use a special external cable, which will route the USB lines directly to the SSD bridge instead of the PD controller.

My question is:

Can my design be accomplished based on the above design?

Can I program the PD Controller using the provided GUI to act as a power source & sink, and also to be presented as a USB device – from the laptop USB port point of view?
