DP83822I: How to use DP83822I test mode

Part Number: DP83822I

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating DP83822I. They noticed that in below register, there are 10Mbps and 100Mbps test mode description.

Can you help explain what is the function of these test mode? When we enable the test mode, will DP83822I automatically send data out? And is this data stream to MAC side or transformer side? Thanks

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Hello Wayne,

We recommend using following app note for 822 compliance testing :

  • Hi Vikram,

Thanks for the app note. I read through it but I didn't find any configuration about the 0X0027 register. From my understanding, we can use 0x0027 to program the PHY into a test mode so the PHY can automatically send some specific data pattern out. But I just want to confirm the direction of the data pattern: is it from PHY to MAC or from PHY to RJ45? And do you have any document to guide how to set 0x0027 register to put the PHY in test mode?  Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Wayne

  • Hello Wayne,

0x0027 is for data towards RJ45. We only have register description of 0x0027 as the required programming details. The app note I shared earlier, is used for compliance testing and not particularly 0x0027. Test hardwares/equipments usually dont need any particular pattern to be sent and they automatically find out the required pattern from data-stream. So you should be good with app note configuration for your compliance testing.
