Hi team,

I'm going to run 100MHz clock signal for reference of FPGA DDR4 (LVDS in, LVDS out). I'm looking into clock buffer devices (LMK01010, LMK00308, or CDCLVD1208 etc.) and interface devices (SN65LVDS108 etc.) What's the basic difference between two device categories when they are used for buffer functionality of clock signal? Is there any difference in the performance point of view or in PCB design (signal trace length etc.) point of view?

    Hi Ella,

    CTS clock buffer devices are designed specifically for clocking applications (ultra-low jitter, etc.) while interface devices like SN65LVDS108 are more general purpose. It's a repeater that can be used as a clock fan-out buffer, but the performance in a clocking application will not be as good as actual clock buffers.
