DS90UB953-Q1: Serdes data Bandwith limitation when pairing with an image sensor

Dear All

I would like to understand what are the limitations of the TI953/TI954 serdes when pairing with an Image sensor.
Inside the serdes datasheet, I am seeing 2 mains limitations:
- 4 Data Lanes at 832 Mbps Per Each lane
- Pixel clock = 100Mhz max for raw images
How can I integrate these 2 limitations if I want to run a sensor with 10M pixel, 30fps, 10bit output, 4 lanes, 25Mhz input clock for the image sensor?

Are there other limitations that should be taken into account?

Hello Muriel,

The only limitation you need to take care about is the max CSI-2 data coming from the image sensor into the 953 SER.

So, you will need to calculate the CSI-2 Throughput in the following way and see if that fits in the 3.28Gbps (4x 832Mbps):

Hres x Vres x Bits/pixel x FPS x Overhead (blanking)

Thanks a lot for your fast answer.

Can you tell me how to define the Overhead ?

I need to use a serdes with a CSI-2 throughput of ~790Mbps per lane:

- this allows ~5% of overhead if using the TI953/4 ==> is-it enough?

if not, can you suggest another serdes?

To get the exact number for overhead (blanking) you need to contact your sensor vendor, since this signal is generated their.
